Apply Online

Go to the DTE Energy website to find the on-line application.  Your application will be evaluated to see if you have the qualifications the company is seeking for the position.  If your application is approved, you will be contacted about assessments.

DTE Energy’s Assessments

DTE Energy uses assessments developed by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI).  Most of the tests for trades, customer service, and field positions are given at DTE Energy’s campus in downtown Detroit, MI, though tests can sometimes be made available online.  Reasonable accommodations are provided for individuals who are qualified as disabled.

Resume Review

Applicants with qualifying scores on their assessments will have their resumes reviewed. You will want to make sure your resume reflects your most current positions, certifications, and education. Suitable candidates will move on to the interview process.

Interview

Interviews are held on-site, and consist of behavioral interview questions as prepared by Development Dimension International, Inc.  Applicants will be expected to answer questions using the STARs format.  Your answer should include the situation/task to set the context for your response, the action(s) you took, and the result of the action(s).  The interviewer will be looking to see how you as an individual responded to the task, so do not answer in terms of your team.  You can expect to answer questions based on Customer Focus, Planning and Organizing, and Technical Knowledge.

How to Prepare for DTE Electric’s EEI Assessments?

DTE Electric uses a variety of aptitude and skills tests created and provided by EEI (Edison Electric Institute), an American association of investor-owned utilities, that are tailored to specific positions within the energy field.

Advanced preparation is always important when taking assessments as part of an application process.  Familiarizing yourself with the format of the assessment and knowing the type of skill-based questions will help you be more relaxed on the day of testing. Practicing with math and language tests will also help you to strengthen those basic skills to provide a strong foundation for any assessment. Taking multiple practice tests will enable you to show your skill level and allow you to stand out in a pool of qualified applicants.
