What Is Hydro One’s Hiring Process?
To get started you will need to submit your application directly to one of the posted job openings. Unsolicited applications will not be accepted. Your application will be reviewed by a hiring manager, and your experience will be weighed against that of the other candidates.
If you are shortlisted to interview, you will be contacted by a team member. The interviews consist of a mix of behavioral and technical questions. After the interviews, candidates will be short-listed even further.
As a final step, after the interviews, the best candidates will be asked to take psychometric tests. At the same time, a background check may be performed. After these decisions will be made and the best candidate, hopefully you, will be given a verbal offer.
Hydro One’s Pre-Hire Tests
Hydro One uses psychometric tests to determine which candidates have the best cognitive abilities. These give an idea of how well candidates can problem solve, critically think, and make decisions. The test content will vary depending on the job you have applied for, but the majority of the tests will focus on these specific areas.
Numerical Reasoning – Your ability to work with numbers will be tested using numbers given to you in tables or graphs. This helps show how well you are able to work with data sets and analyze information.
Mechanical Reasoning – This assessment is generally reserved for those who are in the running for technical positions. This will evaluate your knowledge of basic mechanical concepts, and simple machines, as well as your ability to solve a problem that has been described within a simple system, such as a set of gears.
Spatial Reasoning – This is another test that is usually targeted for those in technical positions. This assesses how well you are able to manipulate objects, and visualize a 3-dimensional object from a diagram or drawing.
Abstract Reasoning – This type of test uses shapes and matrices to test your problem-solving abilities. You will need to identify patterns within sets of shapes, and determine how to complete a sequence.
Deductive Reasoning – Here you will need to be able to reach a logical conclusion from a statement or paragraph. You will need to work with the information you have to determine if statements are correct, incorrect, or if you do not have enough information to decide.
Personality Test – A personality survey is often given to show if your goals and motivations are a good fit for the culture of Hydro One. It will help determine your dominant personality traits, your strengths, and your ability to work in a group setting.
How to Prepare for Hydro One’s Psychometric Tests?
The testing phase will make or break your chance of receiving a job offer. It is always best to go into it as prepared as possible. You can practice your cognitive skills in a number of ways. Crosswords, sudoku, and puzzles mirror some reasoning skills. There are apps you can use to help work on different cognitive areas.
You will be sent a link to take the tests from home. Make certain you have a quiet work area set up. You need to be able to test where you will be free of distractions. Have a pencil and scratch paper nearby so you do not have to search if you encounter a problem you need to write out.
Most importantly, learn as much as you can about the company beforehand. This will help you understand what they value, and give you some insight into their test process, and the company culture.
