OPG’s Pre-Hire Tests
OPG has employees of all different employment backgrounds. With a mixture of technical, business professionals, and engineering employees there are several different tests that are given. You will be tested depending on the skills and knowledge the job you applied for requires.
These are a few of the tests that are most frequently given.
Mechanical Aptitude Test – If you are testing for a role in plant operations, or other skilled trade position this is a test that you should be ready for. You will need to demonstrate knowledge of simple machinery and basic mechanical principles. There are also questions about basic physics and the practical application of those principles. The test is multiple-choice.
Operations Test – Geared toward technicians and engineers, this test focuses on engineering concepts. Questions will include topics like technical language, system processes, and programming.
SHL Psychometric Tests – This includes personality and aptitude assessments that tests your basic aptitude in certain areas. It looks at your abilities in verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning, and inductive reasoning. The SHL assessment shows how well you are able to problem solve, your reading comprehension abilities, and your ability to think logically. All areas of the test are multiple-choice, and you do not need any specialized knowledge to perform well.
How to Prepare for OPG’s Assessments?
Most testing is able to be done from your home computer. You will be sent a link to the tests, and you will have a specific timeframe in which to complete them. Before you start on the tests, take time to prepare yourself so you can put your best foot forward.
If there are any areas that you know are of importance to your job, such as programming, or mechanical concepts, use your old study guides or online tools to practice and refresh your skills. General aptitude assessments can be prepared for by using reading study guides designed to quiz students, math flash cards to improve your arithmetic skills, and puzzles to practice logical thinking.
Psychometric testing is a common tool in selecting qualified candidates. You can give yourself an edge in this competitive industry by working to ensure your test score stands out.
