What Is BDO’s Hiring Process?
BDO has opportunities available for graduates and seasoned professionals. They regularly hold on-campus interviews, office tours, and meet-the-firm events, so there are plenty of opportunities to learn about the company and hear about the position opportunities that are currently available.
One thing that makes the BDO hiring process unique is the availability that job seekers have to the current employees. BDO not only offers site tours to learn more about their business, but they also have a “Talk to Us” page on their website where candidates can pose questions to current employees about job requirements, the BDO culture, and what it is like to work for the company.
Their recruitment process is multi-stage and competitive since they are looking for the best candidates available. If you apply for a role at BDO, you can expect your hiring process to follow the following pattern.
Online Application
Once you have decided that BDO is the place for you, you will submit an online application. This application lets the firm know that you are interested in the position and gives you an opportunity to explain why you are the best candidate for the role.
The hiring manager will review this application, so be sure to attach an updated and professional resume. You should also answer all questions thoroughly and be honest in your abilities and desire for the role.
BDO Psychometric Tests
If a hiring manager feels you may be a good fit for the role, they will invite you to take several online aptitude and psychometric assessments. You may take different skills exams based on the position you are applying for. However, every candidate can expect to take at minimum the following tests:
Verbal Reasoning Assessment – The verbal reasoning test is an interactive exam that assesses your understanding of written language. You will typically be given a paragraph and will answer multiple choice questions based on what you have read. This test looks at reading comprehension and ability to translate knowledge into actions.
Numerical Reasoning Assessment – The numerical reasoning test will not ask math-intensive questions. Instead, it will likely ask you to interpret a given data set or figure, choose what comes next in a simple pattern and number sequence, and do basic arithmetic and currency conversion.
Critical Reasoning Test – The critical reasoning test is another form of psychometric test. This test is typically used for candidates applying for management, professional, and supervisor positions, but can be used to assess graduates as well.
SJT – This situational judgment test (SJT) is an assessment that explores your reactions to various workplace situations. During this test, you will be presented with hypothetical situations and asked how you would respond under the select circumstances.
During these exams, hiring managers are looking for candidates that will embody the company’s values. They want you to be honest, professional, and client oriented. Be sure you learn a bit about the company and how a BDO employee would answer the questions to the psychometric tests.
After your assessments have gone through the screening process, you will do a video interview. During this video interview, you will pre-record your responses for the hiring manager to review. The company will give you select questions to respond these. These will typically be based on behavior, personality, past experiences, and your ability to perform the role.
After looking at the question, you will have time to think about, record, and re-record your response before officially submitting your answer to the proposed question. Be sure to take advantage of that opportunity and contemplate and rehearse your responses before submitting. Taking this extra step will ensure that you submit the best response that you possibly can, and will increase your chances of moving on to the next step in the recruitment process.
Assessment Center
The last stage of the BDO recruitment process is the assessment center. During this day, you will complete a variety of tasks with and without other candidates.
Group Exercise – The first task will be a group exercise. Here you will work with a group of candidates in different exercises to test your ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and work as a team.
In-Tray Exercise – The second assessment of the day will be an in-tray exercise. This exercise will see how well you prioritize tasks. They will likely present you with several tasks, including a brief that you must read and an adverse situation. You will need to show that you can complete the work assigned and manage the tasks within the designated time. At the end of this assessment, you will need to provide a written report on your given brief.
Brief Presentation – Another component of the assessment day is the presentation. BDO will provide you with a case before the assessment day. Once there, you will need to give a 20-minute presentation on the brief you were assigned.
In-Person Interview – Lastly, the assessment day consists of in-person interviews. These interviews will likely be with a hiring manager and will be competency-based. They will ask you about your past experiences, behavior-based questions, and why you are the best choice for the role.
Hiring managers will be evaluating all of your interactions during assessment center day, so be sure to be professional and respectful at all times.
How to Prepare for the BDO Assessment?
Since BDO only hires the best candidates, you will need to show them that you are the right person for the job. The best way to do that is to prepare for all sections of the recruiting process.
You will want to start your preparation with sample assessments. You can take online tests, both free and paid, that provide example questions for each of the aptitude and psychometric tests that BDO uses. By taking these tests, you will better understand the types of questions you will be asked and can practice how you will respond.
Candidates will also want to prepare for the in-person interviews. Be sure to research as much as you can about the company, understand what they are looking for in a candidate, and present yourself confidently. You may also want to look up sample interview questions and practice your explanations. Rehearsing your responses will help you sound more comfortable and confident in your answers on the interview day.
Taking the time and energy to prepare yourself for all aspects of the recruitment process will increase your chances of being hired. Be sure to follow these tips and thoroughly prepare before starting the process.
