What Is the Hiring Process at PPL Corporation?
PPL Corporation jobs listings can be reached through the portal for their region. When beginning your search, make sure you are looking in the area you are hoping to find work in. You will need to create a profile through the PPL website to begin submitting applications. A profile also allows you to receive job alerts and save unfinished applications.
Some positions require testing before you can move forward in the hiring process. Any tests you need to take will be listed in the “requirements” section of the job listing. You will be contacted by a recruiting representative about test scheduling and location. Moving forward requires successful completion of the tests. Failure to perform adequately will immediately disqualify you from the job.
If your desired position does not require testing, or if you have successfully passed any tests, you will be contacted for a telephone screening. If you make a good impression, you will be invited to an interview. Interviews will be a combination of behavioral and technical questions.
If all goes well, you will receive a conditional job offer. You will need to complete a background check, drug screening, and possibly a physical exam for labor intensive jobs. Once you have made it over this hurdle you can look forward to your first day at your new job.
PPL Corporation Pre-Hire Assessments
Like most companies, PPL uses psychometric testing to help them find the best candidates. Tests can be used to determine if a candidate has the right combination of critical thinking skills and technical expertise, or if they are psychologically capable of performing the required duties.
There are two tests that PPL Corporation often has listed as requirements for employment. Typically, positions will require only one of these tests.
EEI CAST Test – Provided by the Edison Electrical Institute, the Construction and Skilled Trades Test (CAST) is given to jobseekers who have applied for roles in electrical transmission and distribution, facilities and equipment, and meter reading service and repair.
The CAST test has four areas that it evaluates.
Reading For Comprehension – This section shows how well you are able to understand information you have read. You will have several passages to read, followed by 32 multiple-choice questions. You will have 30 minutes to answer the 32 questions.
Mechanical Concepts – This is all about how well you understand basic machinery. You will need to be able to interpret a diagram of a mechanical problem, and answer questions about how to solve it. You will have 44 multiple-choice questions to answer in 20 minutes.
Mathematical Usage – Here you will need to solve basic math problems. You will have 7 minutes to answer all 18 multiple-choice questions.
Graphic Arithmetic – Can you use a diagram to answer math problems? That is what you will be doing on this portion of the test. There is a 30-minute time limit, and you will have 16 multiple-choice questions to answer.
PSP Psychological Test – This test is given to those who will be performing in high stress positions. You will be asked to sit for an online test. The test will measure cognitive abilities, work behaviors, and interests. After your test is submitted it will be examined by psychologists who are also industry experts. Based on your answers they will build a profile and submit it back to the PPL company you have applied with for them to consider.
How to Prepare for PPL Corporation’s Assessments?
Taking time to prepare yourself for psychometric testing can vastly improve your performance. The EEI CAST Test is particularly easy to study for. You can find practice tests and Skill builder resources on the PPL Corporation website. Practice tests will help you familiarize yourself with the format, work on testing under a time limit, and give you an idea of the types of questions that you will need to answer.
The PSP test may be a little trickier since it is primarily a psychological test. When taking psychological tests, the best thing you can do is be honest. The psychologists who score the exam will be looking for contradictions and can tell if someone picked an answer because it seemed like the right one. Answer the questions while remembering to respond based on your behaviors in a work setting.
