What Is AES’s Recruitment Process?
The AES application process is done entirely online. You will need to submit an updated resume at the time of application and be sure all your contact information is accurate. Be sure to include an email address where you can be contacted. Openings for all of the AES companies are available on the main corporate website.
Depending on the position you have applied for you may be required to complete pre-hire tests. Applicants for the corporate Energy 4 talent program will be sent a link to complete a HireVue interview.
If your tests and screenings are outstanding, you will be contacted for an interview. The interview will include a mix of technical and behavioral questions. Depending on the position you are hoping for, you may have more than one interview, and they may be done one on one or as a panel. If everything is going well, you may receive a conditional job offer. The offer is contingent on passing a background test, a drug test, and for some positions a physical exam.
AES Corporation Pre-Hire Tests
Some positions require completion of testing so candidates can prove they have the skills required to perform their duties adequately. If there are any tests you are required to take, they will be noted in the job posting. Some of the companies within the AES Corporation, including AES Indiana, require completion of Edison Electric Institute, EEI, tests. These tests are used to show that a candidate has the aptitude in the right areas to perform well on the job. If you are required to take any EEI tests it will be directly related to the job you are testing for.
Some of the tests used frequently include these:
MASS Test – Plant maintenance workers need to show that they have the ability to work with machinery and follow safety protocols. You will be evaluated on mechanical concepts, reading comprehension, assembling objects, and mathematical usage. There will be a time limit on each of the four sections.
CAST Test – Lineworkers and other skilled trades-people may be required to take the CAST Test. You will be tested in areas necessary for job performance which includes graphic arithmetic, reading for comprehension, mathematical usage, and mechanical concepts. You will be working under a time limit on each test, and the entire exam will take around 2 hours.
TECH Test – Engineers and technicians will need to take the Tech Test. The areas you will be tested in are graphic problem solving, interpreting diagrams, mechanical concepts, and reasoning from rules.
POSS Test – Plant operators need to be able to think critically, understand the equipment they are working on, and understand safety protocols. The test will focus on areas related to these skills. You will be tested in figural reasoning, mathematical usage, and reading comprehension. You will be timed on each section, with the test lasting a total of two hours.
SO/PD II Test – This test battery was designed for power dispatchers and system operators working in plants. There are four areas in which you must show proficiency. These areas are mathematical usage, analytic thinking skills, reading comprehension, and multi-tasking. Each section of the test is timed, with the entire test equalling a total of two hours.
MRAB Test – Meter readers will be tested in the areas of graph reading and coding.

You can easily begin preparing for the Edison Electrical Institute Tests by using the test brochures and practice tests offered on the website of the AES company you have applied with. If you have completed any classes in your field, use your study materials from your class to study the necessary areas. Make use of the practice tests to work on testing under pressure. The feedback from the completed practice tests will also help you target your weakest skills. Don’t depend on the material from the practice tests to help you learn the answers to the test questions. The practice tests are the same basic format, but the questions differ from the actual tests.
