How to Prepare for the American Express Assessment?
American Express usually uses CEB/Gartner (SHL) assessments, but this could change based on where you are taking your assessment. You can ask about the assessment publisher when you begin the application process. There will more than likely be several sections to the assessment you take when applying to American Express.
Numeric Reasoning: You will be asked to analyze data from graphs and tables. You can also expect questions on percentages, ratios, and computation. The test is in a multiple-choice format, and is measuring your ability to work with numbers.
Verbal Reasoning: You will be asked to read a passage, then to answer questions that will require you to show comprehension, an ability to analyze text, and an ability to draw appropriate conclusions from written text. This test measures your ability to work with written text.
Logical Reasoning: You will be asked questions relating to sequences of shapes and patterns. You will be asked to identify the missing step from multiple-choice responses. This assessment measures your logical reasoning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Situation Judgement: You will be presented with a series of scenarios that you might come up against in the workplace. You will be asked to choose from a list of possible responses to the situation as to which you think is the best response and how you would react. Learn more about SJT tests.
All of these tests will be timed, so taking practice tests will give you an advantage as you will be familiar with the test format and you will know what types of questions to expect. Always read the questions and responses carefully to ensure you are answering the question that is actually being asked.
You might also be asked to take a personality assessment to determine your character traits and give insight into your thought process.
The time it takes to prepare for assessments and interviews will be time well spent when you are offered a position at American Express.
