What Is Blackstone Group’s Recruitment Process?

If you are interested in a hospitality career, you will need to search for the Blackstone Group hotel you wish to look for, and follow its direction for application. All positions listed on the Blackstone Group website will be for direct employment in one of its departments like Real Estate, Finance, or Portfolio. If you hope to work directly for Blackstone Group, apply through their online portal.

If your application seems to be a good fit, you will be called for a telephone interview. During this screening, you will be asked about your resume and your experience. This interview will be HR’s first impression of you, and your tone and answers during the phone call will play into the selection process

Before you are asked to attend an in-person interview, you may be asked to take some online tests. These tests are used to identify strong candidates and short-list the job-seekers who have the best potential.

If your tests reflect what the Blackstone Group is looking for you will be invited to an in-person interview. This interview may be done either one on one or as a panel. Depending on the level of position you are hoping for you may have several stages of interviews.

Blackstone Group’s Psychometric Tests

The tests you are asked to take will vary for each position. They range from psychometric tests to personality and situational judgment tests. The tests you are asked to take could include one or more of the following common pre-hire assessments:

  • Logical Reasoning Also known as abstract or figural reasoning, this test measures how well you can problem solve using only shapes and patterns. You will be presented with changing sequences of shapes, and you will need to determine the pattern to find the missing piece of the sequence. This test is multiple-choice.
  • Numerical Reasoning Especially important if you will be holding a position in finance, this will show how well you can work with numbers. The difficulty of this test can vary based on the level of the position you have applied for. You will need to solve numerical problems involving graphs and charts. This test is multiple-choice and has a time limit.
  • Verbal Reasoning Communication and the ability to correctly follow verbal and written direction is important in every job. The verbal reasoning test determines your skill in this area by using short passages followed by multiple-choice and true or false questions. You will need to use the information in the passages to correctly draw conclusions about what you have read.
  • SJT This test shows your real-world problem-solving skills. You will be presented with common challenges you may face while performing your job. These will be followed by a list of possible reactions. Depending on the test format, you either need to list the responses from most to least effective or select the one you think is the best of the offered suggestions.
  • Personality This questionnaire is given to see how well you will fit into the existing team. Even a well-qualified person can fail in a position if the environment is not the right fit for them. Personality tests establish a profile based on your personality traits, workplace motivations, ability to work on a team, and what drives you. There are many variations of personality tests that may be used.

How to Prepare for Blackstone Group’s Pre-employment Tests?

For companies that utilize psychometric testing, your performance on the tests will determine if you can get as far as the interviews. To assure yourself of exceptional performance on the pre-hire exams, take extra time to practice and prepare yourself.

Make yourself a study guide to practice math problems and focus on word problems and working with charts. Verbal reasoning can be practiced with word puzzles and crosswords, both of which help improve your vocabulary as well as your reading comprehension. Logical reasoning can be practiced with puzzles, as well as apps designed to help improve brain function.

When it comes to situational judgment and personality tests, honesty is the best policy. However, you should make sure you’re well educated on Blackstone Group as well as the position you hope to get. This will help you make educated decisions if you are torn between several similar answers.

Always be sure to practice while working under a time limit so you are used to performing under pressure. Try to get yourself comfortable with making quick decisions and moving on. When working on timed tests it’s detrimental to focus for too long on one question. Learn to confidently make an educated guess so you can complete as much of each test section as possible.
