Cathay Pacific Psychometric Tests
The online assessment tests for potential pilots are long and intense to make sure candidates have the reflexes and cognitive abilities to perform well as a pilot.
These tests include:
- Computerized Aptitude Test – This test is made up of several sections that will test your reaction time, memory, spatial awareness, and multi-tasking.
- Technical Test – This section is multiple choice and related to the physics and technical aspects of aircraft operation.
- Abstract Reasoning – To measure an individual’s cognitive function, and problem-solving ability this test is given. It requires you to work with shapes and matrices to predict a pattern or find the missing part of the pattern.
- Personality Test – To make sure pilot candidates do not possess any tendencies that would make them dangerous, and to make sure they have a personality suited to the position, all candidates for positions as pilots will be given a personality test. This test consists of statements that you will need to either rate on a 5-point scale or mark as agree/disagree
Flight Attendants will be required to take a language assessment. This will be online and is multiple-choice.
Other Tests
Baggage handlers and flight attendants have certain physical requirements they must be able to meet. Flight attendants will be tested on their reach, and baggage handlers will need to demonstrate that they can lift the required amount of weight.
Cathay Pacific Assessment Day & Interviews
During the assessment day, there will be group and individual interviews. The online assessments for pilots, the physical tests for flight attendants and baggage handlers, and the online language tests will all be given during the assessment center.
The initial interviews during the assessment day will be group interviews. During the interviews, candidates will introduce themselves, then be given a topic to discuss. Usually, the topic of discussion is related to aviation or the airline industry. Participants will be observed to see how they relate to and interact with the other candidates.
If you do well during the panel interview, you will be selected for an individual interview. The individual interviews will focus on skill sets and technical knowledge. Your motivations for applying with Cathay Pacific may be discussed, as well as your knowledge of the company, and your goals in working for them.
How to Prepare for Cathay Pacific Assessments?
Success on the online tests will determine if you have a future as a pilot with Cathay Pacific. You will need to prepare yourself so you can confidently take the tests and achieve the highest possible score. Review the skills you will need as a pilot. Practice your reaction time, and hand eye coordination. This can be done with online tools, certain sports, or even a computer game. Work your logic centers with puzzles or apps meant to help with your cognitive development. The better prepared you are, the less likely you are to let nerves get to you and affect your test results.
Getting hired with any airline is extremely competitive. Cathay Pacific is no different. If you show them that you have what it takes to not just pass, but excel at the online assessment tests, you will be flying through the skies with them in no time.
