What Is the Cognify Test?

Cognify is a game-based psychometric test that is given as part of the hiring process for several companies in Australia. The exam was designed by Revelian and later acquired by Criteria, the current test provider.

The assessment provides six game-based tests designed to assess various aptitudes and capabilities, giving the employer a well-rounded look at the candidate. Other Exams

Many employers will ask candidates to take the Emotify assessment in addition to the Cognify exam. Like the Cognify tests, Emotify is also gamified. However, while Cognify tests cognitive aptitude, Emotify assesses emotional intelligence. You should ask the employer if you will be taking both exams to better understand what you need to study for.

Tally Up

The Tally Up game will test your ability to quickly calculate and compare sums. You will receive two sets of tokens, each with different values, and will need to sum each group to see which one has the higher value or if both sets have the same value.

Some of the tokens have unique rules to make this game even trickier, such as multiplying the face value by two. You will also have a strict time limit of 4 seconds for each round, with 35 rounds in the game.

Preparing for this game ahead of time is crucial to your success because of the fast pace and tricky format.

Numbubbles

Numbubbles is another math game in which each bubble contains a mathematical equation. Your job is to pop the bubble whose equation equals the target number for each round. The game is progressive, meaning it will get more challenging as you move through each round.

You will have a total of 10 rounds in this game and only 20 seconds per round. You will need to work quickly and accurately to do well in this task.

Resemble

In the Resemble Game, you must recreate a pattern using several colored tiles. As an additional challenge, the recreation will be a rotation of the original image, so you’ll need to visualize the designs from different perspectives before building it. You will have three minutes to complete as many patterns as possible. Be sure to pay attention to the patterns, as they may change mid-test!

This game will assess your problem-solving abilities, as well as your spatial reasoning and attention to detail.

Short Cuts

The Short Cuts game is another critical thinking task. You’ll receive a puzzle in which you must navigate a marble from the starting point to a specified location marked with a star in the shortest distance possible. The shorter the distance you take, the more stars you will receive. Along the way, you’ll need to navigate around obstacles that may block the path you want to take.

You will have seven minutes to complete seven rounds of the game. You can undo your last move or reset the puzzle at any point. The best way to approach these puzzles is to think about your actions ahead of time to ensure you go the shortest distance possible.

Gridlock

The Cognify Gridlock game is a puzzle in which you need to perfectly fit blocks of different shapes to form a grid. This game resembles Tetris, but you can insert, extract, and rotate the blocks as needed.

You’ll have three minutes to finish as many puzzles as possible. To do well in this game, you’ll need to comprehend the shapes and manipulate them quickly.

Proof It

The last Cognify game you will play is Proof It. This task will present several documents containing typos, missing words, punctuation errors, and grammatical errors. Your job is to proofread the document and identify the number of mistakes the test specifies.

The game will have five rounds, each lasting one minute. You must identify the errors quickly and accurately to do well on the exam. If you identify an error incorrectly, you will receive a mark, and after three marks, the game will automatically advance to the next document.

Cognify Scoring

Once you have completed all of the Cognify games, you will receive a score report that shows how well you did. This report will present your score in two ways.

The first is an overall score. This score is a percentage and compares how well you did with other employed adults. It gives the employer a good idea of how you stack up against current employees and other candidates.

You will also receive sub-scores for the three sections: numerical reasoning, problem-solving, and verbal reasoning. Since each game is classified into one of these categories, your score on each will directly affect the sub-score in that category. These percentages will show the employer your strengths and weaknesses.

Both scores will be presented as a rating with Far Above Average being 80% – 100%, Average 20% – 79%, and Below Average 0% – 19%. You’ll want to have both score sets reported in the “Far Above Average” category to show the employer that you are the best candidate for the position.
