What Is Connecticut’s Civil Service Hiring Process?

Application

To begin the application process, you will first need to register on the state website  Online Employment Center. This will allow you to save jobs, save progress on your application, and add information to your profile. If you wish to apply for more than one position, you can create a Master Application. The Master Application gives you the ability to quickly fill in the main fields on any applications you intend to submit. There will still be fields you will need to fill out that are specific to each job. All job listings will show if they are open to the public, or only to current state or agency employees. Each position will also have a date that all applications must be submitted by.

Online Testing

Some positions may require additional testing. If a position requires an assessment for a job seeker to be eligible for hire, it will be noted on the job listing. Civil Service exams will vary by city, with tests specific to their needs. You will only be notified of testing if your application meets the qualifications required for the job. All testing for particular job postings is done at one time, and a list of scheduled dates is posted on the state and city websites. In the past, Connecticut required a separate application for the employment exam. Since the transition to online-only applications, the separate exam application is no longer required.
