Hyliion’s Psychometric Tests
As a smaller company with a long-term goal, Hyliion needs to be sure that they are focusing on job-seekers who share their vision, and who will be with them as their company grows and expands. With this in mind, job-seekers may be given online pre-employment tests, so the hiring team can focus on the applicants who will bring the most to the team.
Verbal Reasoning Test – Careers with Hyliion require that individuals have excellent written and verbal communication skills. For this reason, applicants will need to demonstrate their language proficiency with a verbal reasoning test. This test is made up of short texts with a limited amount of information. You will use this information to determine if the questions following it are true, false, or if there is not enough information. This test is timed, so there will be an added element of pressure.
Numerical Reasoning Test – Due to the nature of the majority of positions, job-seekers will need to be good with numbers. Numerical reasoning tests are made up of information given in graphs and tables. You will need to use these graphs to answer the multiple-choice questions on the test. You will be tested on functions such as basic addition and subtraction, fractions, percentages, and ratios. This test will be timed.
Logical Reasoning Test – You will need to have an ability to think abstractly and use logic to find solutions. Logical reasoning tests measure your ability to think through processes and find the missing piece. During the test, you will be given several matrices, which have a piece of the pattern missing. You will need to determine what the pattern is to select the right piece to finish the pattern. This test is multiple-choice and timed.
Mechanical Reasoning Test – This test is usually reserved for those who will be working hands-on, putting together drive-trains and other mechanical equipment. These tests are used to show the job-seekers knowledge of simple physics and mechanical concepts. You will need to find the solution to problems presented as diagrams and answer questions about levers, pulley’s, and other concepts.
Situational Judgment Test (SJT) – These are given to build a picture of how candidates will perform in on the job situations. Individuals are presented with scenarios that commonly occur on the job. You will need to decide either which answer is the most effective, or which is the closest to the way you would respond.
Personality Test – All companies, and especially smaller companies, need to be sure that new hires will mesh well with the rest of the team, and perform as expected. Personality tests are used to show employers your dominant traits and suggest what your work style may be. Most employers have a template of their ideal personality, which others are measured against.
How to Prepare for Hyliion’s Assessments?
Online testing is a common part of the hiring process these days. The key to making it all the way through the hiring process is to be prepared for the tests. This may require studying to brush up on skills you may use every day but have not been tested on in a while. Logic puzzles and online apps can help you sharpen your logical reasoning skills, as well as your verbal reasoning and numerical reasoning. Refresh your memory of simple mechanical concepts, so they are fresh in your mind.
To prepare for situational judgment tests, and personality inventories, the best thing you can do is learn about the company. Learn about their corporate values and mission, to learn about their corporate culture. When taking the tests approach them as though you are already on the job and answer honestly.
The hybrid and sustainable transportation industry is growing rapidly. This is an excellent time to get started on this career path. Focus on the hiring process, and you can experience the excitement of growing with this company.
