What Is Mazda’s Hiring Process?

If you are interested in a career with Mazda, start by finding the regional corporate website. This is different from dealer websites where you will be employed by the dealership, and not by Mazda. The regional website has a list of all the current openings, which you can narrow down by location. Create an account so you can save your resume, and all your information. This makes it easier to complete applications if you find more than one opening that seems like a good fit for you.

If your application looks like a good match for the job, your first contact will be with a recruiter. This is a basic screening interview to go over your application and clarify any questions they may have. If you pass the screening, you will be invited to a panel interview. This may be done over a Zoom call or face-to-face based on convenience.

Reasoning tests, also known as psychometric tests, have a time limit. The content of these tests is used to pinpoint potential employees with the best cognitive reasoning skills, and those who have a personality that will easily fit in with the existing team.

These are the tests that you may encounter as part of the hiring process.

Aptitude Tests:

  • Mechanical Reasoning TestYour ability to work with simple machines, and your understanding of basic physics are tested here. The test may include diagrams featuring a mechanical system with a problem that needs to be solved, or questions regarding physics concepts. The difficulty of the test is determined by the level of the position you are testing for.
  • Numerical Reasoning TestBe ready to demonstrate your ability to work with numbers. You may have graphs and charts to work with to solve problems or word problems you will have to quickly answer. You may need to use addition, subtraction, division, or possibly work with fractions and percentages.
  • Verbal Reasoning TestHow well can you retain and use information you have read? This test will help determine that. You will have several short passages to read, and you will be asked questions that require you to use the limited information you have been given to draw conclusions. You may be answering true or false questions, multiple-choice questions, or a combination of the two.
  • Logical Reasoning TestThis targets your abstract reasoning. Instead of working with words or numbers, you will be working with shapes and patterns. Each question features a series of changing shapes. You must determine the pattern to find the missing piece in the sequence.

 

Personality Tests:

  • Personality Assessment This series of questions helps determine your work style, your ability to get along with people, and your strengths and weaknesses. You may be ranking a set of statements based on how closely they describe you, or selecting an option that you think fits you best.
  • Situational Judgment TestThe SJT test lets you show how well you handle real-life job challenges. You will have workplace scenarios to work through, some of them may be common, and some may be difficult but rare. You need to determine the best course of action based on the choices you are given.

 

How to Prepare for Mazda’s Assessments?

You don’t need to cram to get ready for pre-hire testing. Strategic studying will help you get an edge and outperform the competition. Review the job posting so you can better understand the requirements for the job you are hoping for. This will give you an idea of the tests you may be asked to take. Verbal reasoning and numerical reasoning are two tests most people will have to take. Verbal reasoning can be practiced by simple things like doing crossword puzzles, or reading and then quizzing yourself on the material. Practice solving mathematical word problems so you can get the hang of solving them quickly.  Flash cards can help you work on solving problems in your head, so you can spend less time on each question. Finally, abstract reasoning is all about pattern recognition. Use puzzles that help you develop pattern recognition skills so you can successfully navigate the reasoning test.
