NextEra Energy is a utility holding company. It is the parent company of Florida Power and Light, Gulf Power Company, NextEra Energy Resources, and NextEra Energy Partners. It is headquartered in Juno Beach, Florida, and employs nearly 15,000 people in Canada and the U.S.

NextEra has a goal of reaching net zero emissions. They are on the lookout for talent to help them achieve that goal. What Is NextEra Energy’s Recruitment Process?

All positions available with NextEra and its subsidiaries can be found on their main website. You can submit your application online, making sure to include an updated resume. NextEra offers some advice on their preferred resume style on their website.

Your application will be screened, and if it seems promising, you will be contacted by a NextEra representative. This initial conversation will last about 30 minutes. You will discuss the position, verify the information on your resume, and be informed of what the rest of the hiring process will look like.

Some positions require assessment testing prior to in-person interviews. Field and plant positions will require physical tests. Corporate positions and some supervisory jobs may require psychometric testing.

Once you have successfully taken any tests you will be contacted to schedule an interview.  You may have a series of interviews, and these may include panel interviews in addition to one on one.

 

NextEra Energy Psychometric Tests

The assessments given by NextEra Power are developed by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI). The Edison Electric Institute helps utility companies in the U.S standardize job requirements, and promote safety regulations.

 

EEI CAST Test

The Construction and Skilled Trade Selection System Test (CAST) is for skilled tradesmen applying for positions with utility companies.

  • Graphic Arithmetic – This multiple-choice test measures your ability to answer arithmetic questions with the information provided in two drawings. There are 26 questions with a 30-minute time limit.
  • Mechanical Concepts Assessment – Here, your mechanical ability will be tested. Each question will focus on a problem in a simple system like gears and levers. There are 44 multiple choice questions here, which you will have 2o minutes to answer.
  • Reading Comprehension – There are 4 brief passages to read, followed by 32 questions. The reading focuses on safety in the power industry. This test is to show that you are able to read and understand regulations. There is a time limit of 30 minutes.
  • Mathematical Usage – This is an assessment of your basic arithmetic skills. There are 18 multiple-choice questions that you will need to solve in 30 minutes.

 

EEI POSS/MASS Test

The MASS and POSS tests are given to those who will be working in a power plant as an operator, or doing plant maintenance. The test format is similar to that of the CAST Test.

  • Reading Comprehension – There are 36 questions based on 5 brief passages. The passages focus on job-related topics to keep the test relevant. You will have to solve the questions within 30 minutes.
  • Mathematical Reasoning – There are two versions of this test. Depending on the version you are given there will be either 18 or 46 arithmetic questions to solve. The 18-question version gives you a time limit of 7 minutes. You have 17 minutes for the 46-question test.
  • Mechanical Concepts – This takes the same format as the Mechanical Concepts test given in the CAST test.
  • Tables and Graphs – Here you will show how well you are able to use tables and graphs. There are 2 timed sections. The first is 5 minutes for 60 questions. The second is 5 minutes for 24 questions.
  • Spatial Ability (Figurative Reasoning) – This test has pictures of disassembled machinery. You need to be able to visualize what the machine is, and how each piece fits together. There are 20 questions, and a time limit of 10 minutes.

 

EEI TECH Test

The Technical Operations Assessment System Test (TECH) is broken into 4 separate assessments. This is given to those who will be involved in technical roles in a plant.

  • Reasoning From Rules – This section measures how well you can interpret and apply rules to solve logic network problems. You will have 9 minutes to solve 9 questions.
  • Graphic Problem Solving – There will be 21 arithmetic problems, represented as drawing that you will need to solve in 19 minutes.
  • Interpreting Diagrams – The information on a diagram will be represented by symbols. You need to quickly interpret them and answer the follow-up questions. You will have 9 minutes to answer all 9 questions.
  • Mechanical Concepts – This is the same format as the Mechanical concepts test in the CAST test.
