Aptitude Employment Tests Prep

What Is OYO?

OYO is a hospitality chain founded in India. It is made up of franchised hotels, and vacation rental homes and rooms. Started as a budget hotel chain, it has expanded since its founding in 2013 to become a multinational presence with rooms and hotels in 80 countries. OYO has multiple brand identities which all cater to different customers, from vacationing families to the corporate traveler.

OYO has over 17,000 employees worldwide in hotel positions such as front desk, housekeeping, marketing, and technology. There are also internship and graduate positions available for students interested in learning more about the hospitality industry. Jobs at OYO come with competitive compensation, healthcare benefits, childcare, and employee stock options.

What Is OYO’s Hiring Process?

Search for the position you are interested in on the OYO website or use other internet job sites like LinkedIn or Glassdoor to find open positions. Since many OYO hotels are franchises, they may have their own websites to apply through. Application requirements may vary based on the country the hotel or vacation home is in.

After applying, you may be asked to take some assessment tests. You will be sent a link and you will need to complete them within a certain time frame.

If your resume is accepted, you will be contacted by HR for a phone screening. This will include a review of your experience and give you a chance to ask any questions you may have about the job or the company.

After the HR screening, you will be invited for a face-to-face interview. This may be the first in a series of several interviews, or the only one. The number of interviews will depend on the job you have applied for and the location.

OYO’s Pre-Hire Assessments

Not every position will require assessment tests. There are a few assessments that are common in the hospitality industry. Since many of the positions are customer-facing, identifying job-seekers with good communication skills is important. An ability to work with numbers is also a key part of many positions. Tests you may be asked to take include:

  • Verbal Reasoning This test will show how well you are able to interpret written information and draw conclusions. You will be given a short passage, followed by true or false questions. You will need to use the information you are given to decide if the follow-up statements are true, false, or if there is not enough information to decide.
  • Numerical Reasoning Your ability to work with numbers and use tables and graphs will be measured with this test. The numbers you will need to work with will be given in graphs, and you will need to use them to answer a series of word problems. You will not only need to know how to read the graphs, but you will also need to be able to determine the correct function to use to solve the problem.
  • Inductive & Deductive Reasoning This assessment will show how well you are able to think abstractly. Instead of words or numbers, you will be presented with a series of changing shapes. You will need to figure out the pattern in the way the shapes are changing and pick the missing piece from the multiple options.
  • Situational Judgment Tests (SJT)  – Hotel work requires the ability to take decisive action to please the guests. The SJT will help show how you handle day-to-day occurrences on the job. You will be given different workplace scenarios, and you will need to either rank the given responses from least to most effective or pick the response that you feel is the most appropriate.
  • Coding Tests – If you have applied for a position with the technical team, you will be tested on various coding languages.

How to Prepare for OYO’s Psychometric Tests?

You will need to put your best foot forward to get your application noticed. For many job-seekers, this starts with the assessment tests. Since OYO does not offer study guides, you will need to use the tools at your disposal to give yourself the edge you need. Word puzzles and crosswords can help you increase your reading comprehension. You can use basic tools like flashcards or math drills to help give your number skills a boost. You can also find apps for helping strengthen your number skills. Time yourself while you practice for the assessment tests. Most of these tests have a time limit, and timed studying will help you feel less pressure.
