Pima Medical Medical Institute’s Entrance Exams and Admissions Process Preparation
The Pima Medical Institute screens incoming applicants using the Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam. If you want to apply for a spot either in one of PMI’s certification courses, associates degrees, or bachelor’s programs, you’ll need to pass the school’s entrance exam.
While each of the programs has different requirements, and, indeed, each location also has its own rules, you’ll have to take the Wonderlic SLE no matter where you apply. This standardized psychometric exam will ultimately help the school determine whether you’re committed to the program and whether you can handle the curriculum.
What Is the Pima Medical Institute Entrance Exam?
The Pima Test, otherwise known as the Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam, Wonderlic Personnel Test, and even the Wonderlic Cognitive Ability Test, is a standardized assessment originally created in the 1930’s by Eldon F. Wonderlic. The same test is given as a pre-employment assessment to job-seekers and as a screening exam for students.
It is an online, proctored exam that contains a total of 50 questions, which you have no more than 12 minutes to answer. The test covers general knowledge, logic, mathematics, and verbal reasoning. Basically, it’s designed to test how well you solve problems, perform under pressure, and grapple with new material.
You’ll receive one point for each question you answer correctly, so the maximum you can score on the Pima Medical Entrance Exam, is a 50. You are not penalized for any wrong answers, and you are free to answer the questions in any order you wish. You will be given a sheet of scrap paper you can use to write down your thoughts or the number of questions you skipped, but you will not be allowed to use a calculator at any point during the test.
Why Do I Need to Take the Pima Entrance Exam?
Academic institutions that tend to be more career-oriented generally don’t ask applicants to take the standardized SAT or ACT. While these tests are typically used for colleges and universities, they may only be completed on paper and are not offered in other languages besides English. Plus, they take around 4 hours each, and are highly academic in nature.
By contrast, the Pima entrance exam takes 12 minutes to complete and can be administered any day of the year. Better yet, it’s offered in 12 different languages.
Moreover, the Wonderlic is less intellectual. It doesn’t require any advanced algebra or grammar, so it is perfect for any students who’ve been out of school for a while. It’s designed, essentially, as an intelligence test. Modeled off the standardized I.Q. test, the Pima Medical Exam will evaluate your overall cognitive ability.
Also, PMI wants to know their students will complete their coursework and graduate on-time. The test helps the school to identify serious candidates who will reflect positively on the institution.

What’s A Good Score for the PMI Entrance Exam?
There’s no official passing score for the PMI Entrance Exam. Rather, each program sets its own standard. If you’re applying to the nursing program, you’re going to need a higher score than you would have applying to the training course in medical administration.
If you really want to know what score you’ll need, then contact the institute directly to ask for their specific requirements. In general, we recommend students shoot for a 30 if they don’t know. Thirty should be more than sufficient for the vast majority of programs, and it’s easily attainable with preparation and a bit of hard work.
