What Is the Hiring Process at Tyson Foods?

Once you have taken a look at the positions you are qualified for, and found one that interests you, the next step is to submit an application online. Tyson applications are on the Workday platform, if you have used the platform before you can submit your saved information. If you prefer, you can fill the forms out manually.

If you seem like a good match based on your application, you will receive a call from Human Resources. They may contact you through email, or by telephone to set up an interview. You may go through a few stages of interviews, which we will go into detail about below.

Some candidates may be asked to complete a pre-hire assessment. If any testing is required you will be notified by human resources, and they will walk you through the process. Assessment tests may be given at any point during the hiring process.

The entire hiring process can take as little as a week to as long as 6 weeks. This is entirely dependent on the number of applicants, and the position you are in competition for.

 

Interviews

Your first interview with Tyson may be a simple screening call with a recruiter. During this call, you will go over any questions about information on your resume, and you can get more details about the job you have applied for. If you still seem like a good fit, and the job still sounds appealing to you, you will be invited for a more formal interview with the hiring team. You may have a Zoom    3 way call first or be invited to an in-person interview as the next step. If you will be working in one of their plants, a tour of the facilities will be part of the onsite interview.

  • Mechanical Reasoning Test If you have applied for a plant position, or are working in engineering or robotics, this is an assessment you may encounter. Mechanical reasoning tests evaluate your knowledge of basic machinery and physics concepts. You need to understand the relationships between moving objects, be able to identify a problem in a mechanical system and predict the interactions between stationary and moving objects.
  • Situational Judgment Test (SJT)This test helps show your decision-making process, and how you respond to difficult situations. This assessment gives you hypothetical problems that can occur on the job. You must decide which of the options that you are given most closely matches the way you would handle the scenario.
  • Personality Assessment TestEven the most qualified person will not thrive in an environment they are not suited to. Personality tests help identify how you interact with others, your work style, your drivers, and your motivations. How well you fit into the current team is just as important to the workplace as how qualified you are and is a predictor of workplace satisfaction and job performance.

 

How to Prepare for Tyson Foods’ Assessments?

Do not go into aptitude tests and assessments blind. Since they are so routine in the hiring process, be prepared to take them, so you are not caught off guard. Make sure you are familiar with the job qualifications, if there are certain skills that are emphasized these may be areas in which you will be tested. If you are in a technical field, review basic mechanical theory, and brush up on physics concepts. Make a practice test using ole study guides or test questions that you can find online so you know that your knowledge is up to date.
